Lives and works in Gadigal/Sydney

Hancock’s luminous earthenware vessels are dripped, scrawled, etched and layered with texture and sentiment. Animated with zeotropic scenes depicting eccentric and curious characters; green mouthed camels, googly-eyed crabs and literal sketchy cats – the works can be experienced from all aspects. By referencing ancient Maiolican techniques, mythology, popular culture, personal narratives and obscure internet humour, Hancock reflects the chaotic state of the world; war, fake news, the climate crisis, billionaires and Donald Trump.

Recent exhibitions include solo and group presentations at Sydney Contemporary, LON Gallery, Gallery 9, Alaska Projects and Western Planes Cultural Centre. Hancock has been recipient of a number of prizes, including the Andrew Pethebridge Ceramics Award, the Trudie Alfred Bequest from the Australian Ceramics Association as well as being a finalist in the Mansfield Ceramics Prize and the Gold Coast International Ceramics Award. His work is held in significant private collections in Australia, including the Laverty, Joyce Nissan and Clinton Bradley collections.
