Dord Burrough, Painting Waves

"The works in this exhibition speak to the disorientation that occurs when we lose our reference points. Fascinated by the possibility for the psyche to reconfigure itself as identity and belief structures shift and fall away, this suite of paintings preference territory that recognises the importance of approaching representational and psychological hard edges with gentleness."

Burrough’s practice is increasingly focused on our somatic experience and how our emotional and sensorial processing translates through the cathartic act of painting. Working on larger surfaces throughout this body of work, Burrough has consolidated recent methods of working, moving away from conceptual frameworks allowing energetic formalism to emerge. The physical manifestation of this immediacy can be seen in the open pictorial planes of Burrough’s recent paintings.
