Jeremy Eaton presents his PhD exhibition An Indexical Otherwise: A Queer Reading of James Gleeson at the VCA Art Space from the 16th – 25th July 2025.

The exhibition presents the culmination of Eaton's research, that has turned to the index as historical trace, artistic material, and conceptual device to queerly read histories of sexuality in relation to Australian artist James Gleeson. Through three bodies of artistic work, which include drawing, printmaking, and text, I have explored the index’s dialectical, material, and affective capacities to generate speculative readings that have emerged from archival and historical encounters with Australia’s foremost surrealist.
