Devi Seetharam is featured in the exhibition, And Still I Rise at the Art Gallery of New South Wales. LON Gallery debuted Devi's work, Akasha Mali (Cork Flower), 2024 to Australian audiences in the 2024 edition of Sydney Contemporary and were thrilled when the work was acquired by the Art Gallery of New South Wales. The work forms part of the artist’s acclaimed Brothers, Fathers and Uncles series which has been exhibited at prominent exhibitions worldwide, most notably the 5th edition of Kochi-Muziris Biennale.

Named after Maya Angelou’s famous collection of poetry, And Still I Rise brings together a group of culturally diverse women artists living in Australia, many of whom are internationally recognised, if less familiar at home.

The exhibition spans generations, cultures and mediums, featuring artists Kim Ah Sam, Mia Boe, Mechelle Bounpraseuth, Rainbow Chan, Agnes Christina, Rubaba Haider, Gillian Kayrooz, Jenna Mayilema Lee, Eugenia Lim, Kyra Mancktelow, Haji Oh, Mandy Quadrio, Monica Rani Rudhar, Marikit Santiago, Devi Seetharam, Sancintya Mohini Simpson, Shireen Taweel, Bic Tieu, Suzann Victor and Wendy Yu.

Their works – encompassing textiles, painting, metalwork, installation and video – are conceptually challenging, philosophically layered and intricately crafted. Each piece draws on lived experience and inherited memory, offering fresh perspectives on identity, history and belonging.

Drawn from the Art Gallery of New South Wales’ collection and supplemented with new commissions, And Still I Rise reaches beyond established narratives to explore a multiplicity of experiences, inviting a reconsideration of contemporary Australian art.

And Still I Rise opens at the Art Gallery of New South Wales on 8 November 2025.
