Tim McMonagle, Social Studies

LON Gallery is thrilled to present a solo exhibition of new paintings by Tim McMonagle, Social Studies, his second with the gallery, on view between 26 June – 20 July.

Social Studies extends McMonagle’s interest in the psychological musings of the human experience, and his continued fascination with groups on the fringes of society. Through his unique and masterful handling of oil paint, these artworks offer multiple entrance points that unravel over time, revealing beguiling narratives that emerge from the psyche of the artist’s idiosyncratic protagonists. Inspired by social commentary painters of the ‘20s and ‘30s including Otto Dix and George Grosz, this body of work reflects on the past to understand the present. McMonagle’s investigation into social politics illuminates enduring themes fundamental to the human condition.
