LON Gallery is delighted to present a solo exhibition of new works by Sydney based artist, Tarik Ahlip in eXsanguin.
The exhibition comprises of a number of wall based works made from cast resin, a new development in the artist's practice and a departure from the complex plaster reliefs of which he is predominantly known. This exhibition extends the artist's interest in exploring the area between sculpture and painting, stating that:
"Once, as a way of explaining to someone my dissatisfaction with painting and decision to instead make sculpture, I likened painting to a testimony and sculpture to evidence; anecdote as opposed to something with presence, something sanguine".
Resin becomes a pertinent medium for Ahlip due to its formal qualities and character as a clear medium with lenticular qualities.
"What is held inside the block has, in the sculptural sense, a dimension that cannot be verified."
"To describe something as ex-sanguine would mean it is bloodless, likely dead but perhaps also virtual. The bold X, however, is my way of claiming a vitality for these works; their origin is something sanguine, something real."
