3–27 October 2018
LON Gallery is delighted to present our second solo exhibition with Naarm based painter, Gervaise Netherway. The exhibition comprises of new works on paper and canvas by the artist, which portray a dynamic insight into the artist’s process based research.
Gervaise Netherway’s subtly evocative paintings are at once straightforward and cryptic. They brim with abstract formalities and semiotics that switch between recognition and obscurity. Cacophonies of shapes, marks, and linear detailing invoke spatial and figural illusions; yet remain elusive of any descriptive narrative. For Netherway, painting is used as a source in lieu of becoming or striving to act as a representational image.
Gervaise Netherway graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Art from the VCA in 2015. Since graduating Gervaise has participated in a number of group and solo exhibitions in Melbourne and Berlin. Selected recent exhibitions include, Soft Gestures, LON Gallery, Blue Highway, Soft Kingdom, GlogauAIR, Berlin, Infinite Gestures, Fort Delta, The Drawing is Just Not There, West Space, Winter Blues, Daine Singer, Memory Bliss, Royal Children’s Hospital Sydney, Saturn Returns, Fort Delta, Do Sumn’ – Christopher LG Hill (*and guests), TCB. In 2016 he was invited to participate in a residency at GlogauAIR in Berlin, Germany. Gervaise’s work is held in private and public collections in Australia and Germany.
