LON Gallery is thrilled to present Count On, an exhibition of new paintings by Casey Jeffery, on view in the gallery until May 24th.
Through the roots and branches of her own familial heritage, Casey Jeffery explores the Australian suburban migrant experience and its legacy of materials. Often occupying space between figuration and abstraction, Jeffery’s paintings employ trompe l’oeil methodologies, speaking both to the history of painting, and the complex histories imbued in the fabrics she lovingly reproduces. The textiles are largely heirlooms, inherited from her Nonno, a first-generation Italian post-war migrant, who settled in Melbourne in 1951.
Of the works in Count On, Casey explains, “I am particularly drawn to the formal language of the straight line. It has a promise of clarity through direction and finality - yet the line rarely holds true, it folds, bends and sometimes, wrinkles, revealing its fragility and time-warping potential.”
