30 August–16 September 2023
LON Gallery is thrilled to present an exhibition of new sculptures by Caleb Shea, the artist’s second solo presentation with the gallery, on view between 30 August – 16 September.
Known for his idiosyncratic take on the modernist tradition, Shea’s contemporary approach introduces an animated, sophisticated and playful flare to the discourse. For his exhibition, Immortal Bottoms, Shea extends and refines his visual vocabulary, introducing a shift in scale and density of form.
Since the beginning of his career, Shea has been compelled to respond to the scale and presence of the human form, choosing to work within parameters that are relatable to the human body. Exercising this to its threshold, the new works in Immortal Bottoms take court at the precipice of these limitations, where fuller forms introduce a new monumentality and presence in relation to the human figure.
This elegant and sophisticated exhibition comprises a suite of works which are imbued with an aliveness and theatricality that exceeds their material form. This creates a presence that is both titanic and rhythmic, leading to a compelling tension.
