Brodie Cullen, Jesus, Free Wifi, and the Strength of the Expired

LON Gallery is delighted to present Brodie Cullen’s first solo exhibition with the gallery, Jesus, Free Wifi, and the Strength of the Expired.

Cullen’s practice involves the creation of assemblage works that blur the boundaries between painting, sculpture, and installation.

Framing the civic space as a natural meeting place for the body and how it is governed, Cullen’s works draw attention to and critique the value systems at play in this public space. By salvaging discarded objects for use in his works, Cullen elevates materials that are typically overlooked. With this approach, fabric cut from an abandoned mattress on the street can be stretched to become a canvas for painting. Through attention to the intricacies and inequalities of value within society, his work challenges viewers to question and reassess these systems, ultimately encouraging a more nuanced understanding of value in the urban context.
