Tia Ansell’s compositions are informed by architectural facades, aerial perspectives and advertising designs sourced from sites within metropolitan Melbourne and beyond. Her production conventions emerge from her admiration of the logic (or non-logic) often employed within urban design, planning and architecture. In response, Ansell has developed a mathematical system where design elements are distilled and unified, through continuous vertical line, colour and scale.

Ansell has exhibited extensively across Australia in various solo, group and curated exhibitions, including LON Gallery, Conners Conners, Station Gallery, CAVES, Sarah Scout Presents, the Quarantine and Melbourne Art Fairs and {Suite} Gallery (NZ). She has extensive record of art prizes and grant procurement, including winning the Majlis Travelling Scholarship, the National Gallery of Victoria Woman's Association Award, the National Gallery of Victoria Prize and securing grants from the Melbourne City Council, the Kyneton McFarlane Fund, the John Vickery Scholarship and the Valerie Albiston Scholarship. Ansell is represented in many private and public collections including the Deakin University Art Collection, Australian Catholic University Collection, George Paton Gallery Collection, John Valmorbida Collection, Stevenson Collection, the Drill Hall Collection and the Australian National University Collection in Canberra.
